Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

Provides collision avoidance or damage mitigation support in speed ranges in which frontal collisions are likely to occur. In certain conditions, the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection may also help to detect pedestrians and help prevent or mitigate a collision.

How Pre-Collision System Works
Step 1. Vehicle detects another vehicle or pedestrian
Step 2. Vehicle will display Toyota Safety Sense - red icon with the word brake on the dash
Step 3. If driver does not press brake, vehicle will provide additional braking force during emergency braking

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist

Lane Departure Alert (LDA) Alerts you if you start to drift out of your lane when visible lane markings are detected.

How Lane Departure Alert Works
Step 1. Painted Lines are detected on side of the road
Step 2. Nothing will light up if within lines
Step 3. When crossing a line, display will highlight the painted lines you're going over

Automatic High Beam (AHB)

Designed to detect oncoming vehicles’ lights and depending upon the circumstances, AHB can switch between high and low beams for you.

How Automatic High Beams Work
Step 1. Make sure your automatic high beam button has been activated (lower left of steering wheel)
Step 2. Turn on high beam lights
Step 3. Your vehicle will detect oncoming traffic and automatically lower your high beams until the vehicle has passed and will turn back to high.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+

Toyota Safety Sense version 2.0 has been enhanced with additional safety features for this years 2.5 edition.
Available on: 2021 Highlander, 2021 Camry

Pre-Collision System with Daytime/Low Light Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection, Plus Daytime Bicycle Detection

The camera and millimeter wave radar has been improved to detect a preceding bicycle in the daytime and pedestrians in low-light conditions. Other enhancements include intersection support, which may detect oncoming vehicle or pedestrian when performing a turn, as well as emergency steering assists, which will stabilize the drivers emergency steering maneuvers within their lane.

How The Pre-Collision System Works
Step 1. Vehicle detects another vehicle, pedestrian or bicyclist

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0

Toyota Safety Sense™3.0 (TSS 3.0) introduces several enhancements over the
previous generation, including an upgraded forward-facing camera with higher resolution and
wider angles, and an improved radar sensor for a longer and wider field of view.

Additionally, this latest safety suite includes the capability of over-the-air (OTA) software updates
to TSS 3.0 systems on certain vehicles that can bring future improvements and functionalities,
without needing a trip to the dealer.

Pre-Collision System with Daytime/Low Light Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection, Plus Daytime Bicycle Detection

Pre-Collision System, or PCS, is designed to help drivers mitigate or avoid frontal collisions by detecting a vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist and providing an audio and/or visual forward collision warning and brake assist under certain circumstances.

Enhanced intersection support with improved detection range capability, including (in certain circumstances), oncoming vehicles in more than one lane while turning and vehicles approaching from a lateral direction.

Along with a vehicle, a bicyclist, or a pedestrian, now capable of detecting a motorcyclist in certain circumstances.

How The Pre-Collision System Works
Step 1. Vehicle detects another vehicle, pedestrian or bicyclist
Step 2. Vehicle will display Toyota Safety Sense - red icon with the word brake on the dash
Step 3. If driver does not press brake, vehicle will provide additional braking force during emergency braking

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
and Road Edge Detection
TOYOTA

Lane Departure Alert, or LDA, is designed to detect inadvertent lane departure at speeds above 30 miles per hour and issue an audio and visual warning. If the driver does not take corrective action, the system will provide gentle corrective steering to help keep the vehicle in the lane.

Lane Departure Alert now provides enhanced lane recognition to detect certain three-dimensional objects used to define the lane, like certain types of guard rails.

How Lane Departure Alert Works
Step 1. Painted Lines and edge of the roads are detected
Step 2. Nothing will light up if your vehicle is within lines/road
Step 3. When crossing a line, display will highlight the painted lines you're going over
Step 4. Steering assist will take over to correct small corrective steering inputs

Automatic High Beam
TOYOTA
TOYOTA

Automatic High Beams, or AHB, are designed to help drivers see more clearly at night, while also reducing glare for surrounding drivers. Will detect oncoming vehicles’ lights and depending upon the circumstances, AHB can switch between high and low beams for you.

Lane Trace Assist

Lane trace assist works with the Dynamic radar cruise control to keep your vehicle in between visibly marked lines. Your hands must remain on the steering wheel for LTA to work. Not available on manual transmission.

How Lane Tracing Assist Works
Step 1. Lane trace assist can only be activated with full speed dynamic radar cruise control is activated
Step 2. Uses camera above windshield and millimeter wave radar to detect the white and yellow lines
Step 3. Tracks the center of the road and provides steering assist to guide you back into the middle of the road.

Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

Lane Tracing Assist, or LTA, is designed to help the driver keep the vehicle centered in its lane. LTA functions when DRCC is activated, and detects lane markings, as well as the path of the vehicle ahead, and is designed to actively provide steering inputs that help keep the vehicle centered in its lane.

Capable of steering the vehicle within its lane to offset the vehicle’s driving path to help provide more space between objects being passed in an adjacent lane. Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) on vehicles equipped with a driver monitor camera is designed to also confirm the driver’s eyes are attentive to the road ahead.  If the system determines the driver is not attentive, and the driver does not respond to prompts to resume control of the vehicle, it can bring the vehicle to a stop under certain conditions

Proactive Driving Assist

Proactive Driving Assist, or PDA, is an all-new feature on certain vehicles equipped with TSS 3.0. When conditions are met, PDA can provide gentle braking when driving into curves or gentle braking and/or steering to help support driving tasks, such as distance control between the driver’s vehicle
and a preceding vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist.

The PDA feature set includes Obstacle Anticipation Assist, which is designed to detect vehicles parked on the side of the road, or pedestrians or bicyclists either on the side of the road or crossing
the road. PDA also features Deceleration Assist, which is designed to provide gentle braking to gradually reduce vehicle speed when the system detects preceding vehicles, motorcycles, or certain
upcoming curves in the road. Steering Assist is another feature of PDA and is designed to detect
the lines of the roadway and vary the assistance from the power
steering to help the driver stay within the lane
